I have always loved all things animal when it comes to fashion and decor, particularly the latter. In college, I embraced leopard in the bedroom with sheets and throw pillows. Post-college, it was in more subtle accents, like a zebra crewel rug. When we had the twins, we moved into a larger space to accommodate our family of four. Two years later, I am finally decorating and redecorating rooms that were thrown together in a frenetic, post-baby haze.
Always searching for the quintessential animal accent, I stumbled across a Philadelphia-based shop on Etsy, Furz11, which manufactures deliciously soft and very well-made fur pillows and accent furniture, and the owner, Robert, is incredibly accessible and nice. The best part is that he is also VERY reasonably priced. Three out of the four rooms in our home now feature something from the shop. I think I went from accent to excessive, but I am finally satisfied with the pillow lineup in our home.
My absolute favorite piece is the light grey Mongolian lamb fur lumbar pillow in my children’s nursery. The same pillow retailed for over $300 at three other stores that I priced along Madison Avenue. I purchased the exact same one for under a third of the price from this shop. I am also loving the coyote 20 x 20 inch pillow in my bedroom, and anxiously saving for a second now that I have discovered the importance of symmetry in home design. These pillows are the perfect way to accessorize more muted patterns, and it gives my toy-strewn home some desperately needed sex-appeal.
