Every morning, I take whatever brief moment of peace that I can find to sit down and put on my makeup. This does entail me hiding in my closet while the kids are temporarily distracted, only to hear them banging on the door five minutes later. Unfortunately, Brody has figured out how to get in to my wardrobe oasis, and if he is feeling especially playful that day, he will pull open the rather heavy, hidden pocket door, and he and Bryce will beeline it to my makeup drawers.
They are mesmerized by the collection of brushes and perfumes, displayed on my vanity. But, they are even more enthusiastic about the array of compacts inside my vanity, which, to my dismay, they can now also easily open.
I do not know how they always seem to select the reddest red lipstick or why they favor my loose sparkle eye shadows, but I am constantly chasing them around the apartment out of fear that my new couch or white walls will become their latest canvas (more on our couch’s manicure to come).
When it used to take me ten minutes to apply my makeup, it has dramatically lengthened to 45 with these constant interruptions. And, while I appreciate their attempts at dramatic play, our morning routine is a lot more chaotic.
Thus, I began the search for a toddler-sized dressing space- “just like mommy’s.” I came across this vanity and stool from Land of Nod and I knew it would work perfectly in their room. It is sleek and simple with clean lines and white lacquer, making it a very transitional piece for multiple decor preferences. Plus, the pink tufted stool is just insanely adorable. Since the vanity set was a generous birthday gift from Bryce and Brody’s grandparents, there was careful selection in this process. I wanted it to be a piece of furniture Bryce could grow with, rather than a toddler toy. And, I completed the set with an incredibly realistic looking collection of play makeup and brushes from Glamour Girl.
Now, if Bryce would just realize there are other colors besides pink and purple to try out.
