Like me, Bryce is a curly-haired girl. I say this loosely because she has yet to really grow much hair. But, I know the importance of taking care of these early ringlets and styling them properly. When I was young, my straight-haired mother insisted on brushing my curls out, leaving me to loathe early pictures of myself showcasing a frizzy, cotton-swab like mess for hair.
When I was finally old enough to realize this mishap and take responsibility for my own appearance, I spent years searching for the right beauty products to make my hair curly – without the crunch of gel or the stickiness of mousse. That search ended in my early adolescent years, with a product called Potion 9 by Sebastian. It is an orange serum that has since allowed me to highlight and define my curls, yet also run my fingers through them naturally.
When I realized that Bryce would need a similar product, I spent many hours talking to mom friends and reading reviews on Amazon and Diapers.com for curl serums and sprays. I wanted something that was child friendly and easy to apply (spray) while I was chasing her around the apartment every morning. After several failures with products that left either a sticky residue or did not have enough control, I was beginning to consider using my own products on her few strands. Then, CurlyKids Detangling Spray arrived in a shining brown Amazon box, and gave me the same “ah-hah” moment that I had when I discovered Potion 9 years ago.
It is made for children with a gentler formula that excludes sulfates and parabens. It also has a subtle scent that still allows her to smell like my baby. I can quickly, and easily detangle Bryce’s hair, while also softly emphasizing her little ringlets.
We are still far away from her first hair cut, but I am conditioning her for a lifetime of beauty treatments.
