Since my kids could eat solid food, I have been on the hunt for child-friendly dinnerware that isn’t a total eyesore. We own our share of the ever-popular unicorn and elephant plates, and princess and pirate dishes, which my kids definitely enjoy. But, most of these plates come with gimmicky splash guards that make it hard for kids reach for their food, or dividers, which make it tough to put more than two bites on their plate at a time.
To be honest, I just wanted a more sophisticated approach to meal time for my children. I think they enjoy having a plate with a similar size and shape to Mommy and Daddy, as well.
A few weeks ago, during my endless web-scrolling/Netflix binge nights (you know what I am talking about multi-taskers!) I found the perfect marriage of sophisticated presentation with bright, whimsical, and toddler-centric content.
Meet Sarah and Abraham, an Illinois-based company making the cutest, personalized stationary and dinnerware I have seen in a long time. I decided on the 10-inch plates over the 8 inch option, which hold of bit more portion size, and stack-up against our regular dishware during family dinners. I was able to customize the plates to look insanely similar to my kids, from Bryce’s strawberry blond hair, to Brody’s almond-shaped brown eyes. I was even able to choose their favorite colors, a soft purple and green, and turn Bryce into a ballerina, as she embraces all things girly. The plates are still geared towards children, but a bit more refined and personal, which is how I like my home to be.
The look on their face when I served them dinner on their “own” dishes was exciting for all of us, and it is the most requested plate at meal-time, currently. In fact, this may be the excuse to buy more in my quest over-stuff my already cramped cabinets. It is totally worth it.
