This year, Mother’s Day falls on my six year anniversary, which I feel entitles me to a doubly nice gift. Plus, I am a mom of not one but two, highly-energetic, lovable and sweet, but dangerously curious, two-year olds. Again…double gift.
When my kids were born, my parents bought me a necklace with two letter ‘B’ charms and a small diamond star. Over the past few years, it has not held up like I would have liked. I imagined the necklace would be something I could pass along to Bryce but it just seemed to get duller by the day. I wanted something simple and understated like the single initials, but with also a tad more style.
It had to be wearable (read- practical), since most of my jewelry ends up in a holder by the kitchen sink, and the fanciest place I have gone of late is a ballet class followed by lunch at the diner.
This necklace by Jane Basch was a wonderful online find. I never usually buy jewelry unseen but it met all the criteria, looks great with my leggings and ripped jean uniform, and is actually pretty reasonable when you consider it is 14 karat gold and diamonds. I chose to put two dog tags on a chain, one in yellow and one in rose gold for each child. It was two gifts in one, and something that Bryce has already claimed for herself.
I am not sure if my two-year-old daughter’s jewelry admiration is adorable or terrifying.
