This week, I went into a total panic over how unprepared I was for the kids’ official start of school. While the supply list is minimal for two-year-olds, I still needed tons of extra underwear for impending accidents during all this transition. I also needed name labels for all of their clothes, water bottles and the like; and tons of snacks for the rather lengthy walks to and from class each morning.
A quick Target run provided me with enough crackers and applesauce to last well into the winter, but I was looking for something a little more nutritiously dense than Frozen-themed animal cookies.
I stumbled across this mix on a Facebook friend’s page and I immediately knew my children would go crazy for a seemingly chocolate milkshake – or rather anything chocolate flavored for that matter.
Since I will likely be throwing my kids’ breakfast at them as we rush out the door, I am sure it will go half eaten in our haste. This is an incredible meal boost that pours right into a thermos, and fits nicely into their stroller cup-holder, or car seat if you are driving- without all the dreaded crumbs. Indeed, it is relatively mess free as much as feeding a toddler can be and best of all- my kids actually like it.
I like that is rich in vitamins and minerals, and I can easily blend it with anything from bananas to avocados and it still maintains its chocolaty child-friendly flavor. Bryce, who typically does not like to drink her calories, actually said, “I like this, Mommy.” It was almost as good as hearing, “Mommy, I need a nap.”
The shake is gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, sugar-free and lactose-free. But I mixed in milk when I blended it up, and in my personal opinion, this is essential to a creamy shake-like texture.
I will be posting a bit more in the coming weeks about other fall-friendly snacks and accessories for school, but this is definitely on our busy autumn menu.
