I absolutely loathe junk. I am the first person to throw away almost anything lying around the house. Since we are undergoing a major bathroom renovation right now, my apartment is filled with clutter. We moved most of our furniture and accessories out of the office next door to make way for construction storage. There are tarps covering just about all of our furniture, my laundry is hanging on display in the living room for all visitors to admire, and our desk is now doubling as a second console in the entryway. Couple that with the endless toys that I am constantly picking up from the floor, and my life feels a little in disarray.
Ironically, yesterday I passed by this new store, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, that opened on the UES in Manhattan and specializes in just, well, adorable junk. Of course, I had to go in. The aisles were filled with color-coded knickknacks, ranging from party favors, home decor, and electronics, to beauty accessories, dishware and all sorts of other gadgets. The added bonus of this trip was that everything was insanely cheap.
I left the store with a pink sparkle unicorn and matching pink sparkle sunglasses for Bryce, a set of sports-themed bouncing balls for Brody, multiple sets of stickers, and a few new cups with swirly straws in candy colors.
But, the highlight of my trip were these bowls. I had purchased them on Amazon as a house-warming gift for a friend with twin toddlers, but I was so thrilled to find them again for my own use.
My kids are ice cream addicts. I like it as a dessert option because they are not big milk drinkers and any added calcium is a personal bonus. These bowls glam up our sundae game a bit. The kids love being able to choose their favorite color – since I obviously bought multiples of each! They are a little retro in design and modern in their acrylic material. And, of course, they do not break, making them especially family friendly and great for play dates. My kids love eating off of “grown up” plates, and these are definitely a safer alternative to my grandmother’s hand painted ice cream dishes.
I literally have no place to store them in my already overfilled kitchen, but perhaps I can just pile them on top of the printer that is currently on my center island.
Brody’s favorite purchase is this “ice pop” bath sponge.
