So the weather has been ultra dreary lately. Besides being just kind of gray out, it has been raining often with a mix of snow here and there. Because of this, we have been inside quite a bit these last few weeks. To help pass the hours after school, now that my kids are sans nap, I have been arranging a lot of play dates, particularly at our apartment, which means stocking up on A LOT of cheddar bunnies, crackers and cheese snacks, and also a lot of loungewear.
I am kind of a germ-a-phobe when it comes to shoes on our carpets. Something about bringing the sidewalks of New York City into our home just doesn’t sit well with me. Plus, with all the dampness on the ground, we are wearing winter boots that are always left at the door upon arrival.
Since my socks are usually on display at all times, I like to invest in some cute and subtle pairs to accessorize with my outfits. Typically they are either colored gym socks or patterned boot socks, but I thought these were a nice hybrid of the two. I have been getting a lot of inquiries since posting them on Instagram so I thought I would share here. They have grips under the foot to prevent slipping, a common hazard when chasing toddlers, making them extremely functional as a slipper substitute. Plus, the sequined mesh dresses them up for an afternoon happy hour/play date or for hosting a weekend brunch with friends. I wear them with both leggings and jeans, sweatshirts and sweaters. The brand has simpler versions of these but I went with the sparkle to help combat the gloominess.
Sometimes, I wish that dresses and stilettos were a bigger part of my weekly wardrobe. I fantasize sometimes about exciting events and late nights followed by mornings of sleeping in. But then I snuggle up to my kids on the couch and settle for glitzy socks instead…and a glass of wine, at least.
