It is unseasonable warm in New York right now. In fact, I am not sure if I have ever seen the mid-80s so close to Halloween before. I think mother nature has joined up with my children lately, and she is mocking me as I receive my first delivery of children’s undershirts. When the temperatures dipped lower a few weeks ago, and my kids complained of ‘ouchy zippers’ and ‘itchy sweaters’ against their skin, I immediately ordered a selection of undershirts to help make the winter transition a bit more comfortable.
Now, I have gone through my share of undershirts from a host of different brands. While this is mainly because getting tomato sauce out of anything white is a battle that I am often too tired to fight, I am also particular about the look and feel of the fabric itself. You see, the bulky over-shirts almost always come off by mid-day and their new winter dress-code typically becomes a white t-shirt and sweatpants or leggings.
After a lot of trial and error, I settled on these tops for both kids, from Burt’s Bees Baby. For Bryce, I tend to go with the thin-strapped camisoles and muscle tanks, while Brody typically wears the t-shirts. I like that these shirts are 100 percent organic cotton, which makes them a bit more plush (as well as good for the environment, of course). Because of this, the price point is a little higher than your typical undershirt brand, but still within reason and I feel that I only need two packs per child to get through the winter months – although Bryce tends to wear her tanks into summer with a pair of shorts, especially since they come in other neutral shades like grey and pink.
Considering I still purchase stacks of white tanks for myself to layer each season, ghh I think these tops will be in our future for a while. And while I loathe yet another article of clothing to wash, I know they are comfortable and warm and I will take that over complaining any day…
Yeah right, they are still complaining, just about something else.
